The
Bequia Tourism Association (BTA) was formed in December
1999 by a group of individuals from the Bequia business
community, with the dual aims of protecting and
enhancing the island's resources for both visitors and
the community, and of attracting more visitors to the
island through its own promotional and marketing
initiatives. Its membership has now become more broadly
based, encompassing not only business people but also
representatives of community groups, Bequia schools,
private residents, and Bequia lovers from around the
world.
The
BTA is a non-profit organization, supported by annual
membership fees, fund-raising activities and donations
to the "Friends of Bequia" Club. A subvention from the
government covers the running costs of the Tourism
Office and its staff, while special projects are
accomplished with volunteer labour and skills drawn
from the membership.
The BTA works hard within the community as well in close co-operation with relevant government agencies, to continually initiate improvements in such areas as garbage collection, security, harbour and yachting issues, airport facilities, and beautification of the island. It is also dedicated to providing information about Bequia both on and off the island. This official Bequia Tourism Association website is intended to provide broad-based information about the island, and to offer a platform through which members of the BTA can give brief details of their own business activities here in Bequia. General enquiries are also welcome through our Contact Us email. We hope you
enjoy your visit to our site, and look forward to
welcoming you to our very special island.
